Clippers Quay Polished Up And Shown Off

Developer, Dylan Harvey, has unveiled a detailed look of this in development high-rise project in Manchester, Clippers Quay.

Originally developed by ASK Developments who hired architects Broadway Malyan to design the scheme, it will contain an enormous 654 apartments within a single curving building that rises to 24 floors and 74 metres in height.

Located on the south western edge of Salford Quays, Clippers Quay overlooks Trafford Road to its East, the nearby canal to the south and the dock it takes its name after to the north.

What makes the building unique is its curving nature that effectively forms a C. Starting off at 13 floors on the western side the building steps down to the centre as it reaches around before rising up again on the eastern end culminating with a 24 storey high section that is supported by columns above a large ground floor atrium.

On the inside of the C is a massive space raised above ground level for landscaped gardens, literally large enough to play football on, that have apartment balconies facing directly on to them.

The end result of this on the massing is a sweeping wall of a building more like a super hotel in sunny Miami than an apartment block in central Manchester. The white balconies are punctuated by dashes of green and purple with the glazing recessed behind them goes further in reinforcing this impression - the only thing missing is palm trees to sit in the interior garden and a swimming pool Goldfinger can sit by as he cheats at cards with Bond looking over his shoulder from an apartment above.

There's no date yet on the development timetable of this scheme but Dylan Harvey are working on the Zarrachie Tower right now. Perhaps this will be next in their Manchester pipeline.
