Saville House Begins

Construction work is set to begin on a new speculative office development in Sheffield designed by SMC Gower Architects.

Located near the historic Wicker Arches, Saville House is a 9 floor building that is being developed by Urban Properties as a complete rebuild of the existing 9 storey warehouse that currently occupies the site.

The developer plans to completely strip the interior of the current building allowing roughly 1,100 square metres of grade-A office space to fit in over the top eight floors with the ground floor split between offices and retail units that will front onto the adjacent road. There will also be a 277 space car park.

The scheme will be clad in modular steel panels with reflective glazing with the ground floor featuring a curving glass curtain walling where it fronts onto Saville Street and the nearby River Don.

This area of Sheffield is seen by many as being suitable for a large number of developments that is made ideal by its potential of serving as a major gateway to the city.

Cherry Tree Developments has planned a 137 metre tall outline proposal nearby although this site is still under development and likely to have a design replacing it that is less tall. Saville House marks the first tentative steps towards a bright new future for this dingy gateway area.
