Other Information

  • Gilbert House is almost unique amongst residential buildings in the U.K for being built at a great height over water and standing on stilts. In turn the lake under it is supported by the foundations of the Barbican and also raised above ground level creating a structural consortina.
  • The inspiration for the design is drawn from Venice which the architects visited before they filed the planning application with the canal-like waterway that the building stands over.
