Construction costs were £45 million for the shell and core, with an additional £40 million spent by ITN on fitting out their floors within the building with some 700 miles of cable utilised.
ITN first broadcast from their headquarters only 17 months after construction had begun on site. To help speed up construction there were only three sizes of concrete columns and much of the structure was erected two floors at a time rather than the traditional one. In all the structure took a mere 8 months to build.
The cladding units installed are relatively simple. Two single glazed windows are placed with a void between them and an adjustable blind letting each individual occupier decide just how much sun or shade they would like. A heat extraction system is linked to each void and controls the air temperature between saving on heating and air conditioning costs within the building itself.
The internal fit-out began whilst the structure was still being worked on and the building had only reached its fourth floor.
Although the building is a television headquarters, only 1.5% of the space is actually used for studios with the rest simply grade-A accommodation.
