  • Bolton Abbey was founded by Augustian Canons in 1154
  • The partially ruined Bolton Priory is still in existence as a parish church today with the old nave serving this role.
  • The current church rises to a height of 55 feet, the 36 metre tall tower collapsed over 200 years ago.
  • The site grew in size rapidly until the reformation when it was almost completely destroyed.
  • Work on restoration started in 1867 following the exhibiting of plans at the Great Exhibition in Crystal Palace.
