The hotel is constructed on the site of the old Cavendish Hotel which was demolished following the death of Rosa Lewis who frequented the hotel and made it a social centre in London.
The period from the beginning of demolition in 1964 to completion of the existing modernist building took a mere 19 months.
The structure features a three storey podium with a tower standing over it with twelve storeys of bedrooms.
The plant floor at the top of the tower, which is visually identifiable thanks to the break in the facade is hung from cantilevered roof beams..
