Canary Wharf 2006

Go Home

Here you can see a stunning vision of what Canary Wharf will probably look like in 2006 or there abouts. Pretty much everything pictured is already approved, under construction or built and really the only variables are the two towers at North Quay which are standing to the viewers right of West India Quay Tower. These towers have been based on generic Cesar Pelli designs. The other variable is to the far right of the picture, where three generic 500footers have been added to the site known as Wood Wharf which British Waterways have big plans for.
The result, I'm sure you'll agree is nothing short of stunning, even I was surprised at the density the picture shows. Unfortunately it doesn't capture everything that is going on in the area with the proposed towers for the London just out of the picture at the right, however if all this does go ahead then Canary Wharf alone will have a skyline to rival San Francisco with some 15 500footers (!) in the space of a mere four years.

If you're confused about just what is what right now take a look at the montage below, it explains just what buildings are at what state in the planning process.
Confirmed means the building will be definitely built at that location and in that design, that planning permission has been granted and it is either complete, under construction or about to be started.
Proposed means just that, proposed. With the case of Riverside South it looks likely to be approved as the planning proposal far excedes that which is required. The tarmac building on Heron Quays is also proposed but we have a hunch they will sell the site to Canary Wharf for future development.
Preplanning means that there are towers proposed for those sites but no firm plans exist so we have used generic examples to show the massing of the area.
