Another mid-rise on the edge of the City of London, 30 Crown Place, in Shoreditch has been approved, this time by Hackney Council. 19 floor triangular shaped tower designed by Horden Cherry Lee Architects will be 81 metres tall with an interlinked 9 storey lower rise block sitting next to it. The development features glass curtain walling and will contain 23,225 square metres of largely office space with retail on the ground floor.
Developer City Assets Ltd has seen the scheme specifically designed to appeal to the professional sector with relatively small floor plates aimed at smaller companies in the world of banking. This has proven a highly successful method in the past with both Tower 42 and Citypoint having had almost 100% occupation since being completed in their most recent form.
There's no word yet on whether the developer intends to build the scheme speculatively taking advantage of the current upturn in demand for office space in the City or wait for a big tenant but given the type of tower this is and the relatively small amount of space on offer it's more likely a spec build will be on the cards.
