New Croydon College Plans Win Approval

Proposals for a new part-16 part 38-storey hotel development in Croydon have been approved by the local council.

A previously approved project for this site featured a building that would consist of both a hotel and more space for Croydon College, but this has never advanced to construction and the new proposal has been drawn up as the college now has no need for the extra space.

The design from the drawing boards of Darling Associates lies near East Croydon Station and adjacent to Croydon College. Within the building will be 159 residential apartments taking up the upper half of the building, with a few floors of affordable residential under it. as a result of the lack of affordable housing on the site, a further 2.9 million has been set aside by the developers to provide affordable homes off-site.

Under the affordable section will be the 225 bedroom hotel that fills the lower 12 floors. The ground floor connects to the East Croydon Station plaza with a colonnaded entrance and landscaping to help match with the nearby plaza.

The project is a joint venture between Croydon College and Phoenix London and Regional who intend to begin construction work in the summer of 2015. Once built the tower will stand at a height of approximately 134.56 metres above ground level.
