Ikea Push Modern Living to New Heights

The urban myth now says that a third of Britons are concived on an Ikea bed - with Ikea's new store in Hillingdon on the edge of London they plan to take their influence in the lifestyles of Britons to a new height with an attached residential tower.

In what has been a complete change of plans from Ikea following the refusal for planning permission for a traditional warehouse store by Hillingdon Council thanks to concerns about the huge amount of traffic they generate, and potential rioting from over-enthusiastic shoppers of the Swedish furniture chain, Ikea have sited this store on Long Lane literally next door to Hillingdon Tube station.

The store itself will contain 20,000 square metres of space over the first three storeys of the development which despite sounding like a huge retail area will stock 30% less products than a tradtional out of town Ikea shop.

The residential tower above it rises another 15 floors to reach a total of 18 and will contain 240 one and two bedroom flats including 117 affordable ones which is a substantial amount in comparison to similar residential developments elsewhere in London . The design for the whole complex comes complete with Ikeas traditional blue and yellow styling.

It's understood that both the tower and the location of the store next to an underground station are major compromises to the planners by Ikea although Ikea claims the out of town concept for it's stores is safe as this one sits only 10 minutes drive from Brent Park.

Ikea will formally file the planning application in two weeks and hope to have the entire complex finished within a year which is fast going for anything containing a residential tower. No doubt Ikea fans will be literally fighting over an apartment once they are marketed, we hope the estate agent will call the emergency services in advance.
