Elektron Adds Charge To Blackwall

The emerging residential cluster to the east of Canary Wharf around Blackwall has taken another step closer to reality with the approval of Barratt Homes three planned towers on Aspen Way by Tower Hamlets planning committee.

In total the trio of towers will reach 76 metres AGL for the tallest and 67 metres AGL for the two shorter ones. The tallest will contain 149 apartments over 25 storeys with its shorter brothers having 144 each over 22.

This is the second phase of the Elektron Project, phase one at Switch House sold out in near record time so demand for these is bound to be steep. All the apartments will be either one or two bedrooms, clearly catering towards single people and professional couples. A quarter of the scheme on the lower floors where views command less premium is set to be affordable housing.

Barratt will also contribute £1.8 million pounds to help mitigate the effects of the development for locals including £565,000 for transport such as improving the local East India DLR station and £500,000 for local parks and public spaces.

This area of the east end has become something of a hot spot for residential development lately. The nearby 100m+ Ontario Tower at New Providence Wharf has just started construction with the crane erected onsite only days ago and the planned 98m tall tower at Blackwall Yard is due to start in the next 12 months.
