NLA - Pipers London Model

One of the long-standing architectural displays in London is the most impressive model of much of the centre of the city by modelling firm, Pipers.

Situated at the NLA on Store Street, the 12 metre long, 1:1500 scale model, sprawls all the way from the Royal Docks in the east to the Millennium Dome and Greenwich and then through Canary Wharf roughly following the route of the River Thames. It expands north to take in Stratford and the 2012 Olympic site, as well as stretching west through the City and Westminster all the way to Paddington.

To give some idea of the scale of development London will experience, Pipers has taken the existing massing of the areas the model covers and then supplemented it with the addition of a number of major projects so for example canary Wharf includes Riverside South.

A word of warning though - this model is only a rough guide to what is going where, has many projects missing off it that have surfaced in recent years whilst the depictions of schemes like Riverside South are not exactly to scale.

Despite this it's a great way to see how London is gradually turning out, and will one day hopefully be updated with the newest schemes.

You can see the model at the NLA at 26 Store Street, WC1E 7BT where it is showing indefinitely.
