City Road Basin Fills Up

A planning application has been filed the proposed second tall tower on City Road Basin in Islington plus a further two shorter buildings staggering down in height.

Designed by architects Bennetts Associates and developed by Miller Developments, owners of the much delayed Arena Central project in Birmingham, the tallest tower will be 90 metres in height and contain residential apartments over 26 of its 28 floors. To the north are a further two residential buildings, including one of 45m, which drop down in height the further north they are.

The site which has been masterplanned by Michael Squire Architects and already has outline planning permission for 115m and 90m tall towers is the one of the last major undeveloped waterside sites in central London.

It was earmarked by Islington council in 2004 as one of the few areas in their borough suitable for tall buildings sitting less than a mile from the boundary between Islington and the City of London.
