Huge Skyscraper Planned For LA Wilshire Grand

Proposals have been put forward for a new skyscraper for downtown Los Angeles. The proposal is the first new construction project to pop up since the global credit crisis reared its ugly head and pretty much ruined everyone's fun.

The project thus tentatively named the Wilshire Grand Redevelopment mainly because it will be replace the 50 year old, rather dull looking Wilshire Grand Hotel which currently occupies the site, will consist of two towers set almost perpendicular to each other with one standing at 40 storeys, and one at 80 storeys.

The smaller tower which is rectangular in shape has a slight slant to the facades and also some bevelling to give it a bit of interest and stops it from looking like a dull box.

Constructed from steel and glass the towers glazed facades, which have a bluish tint to them extend up over the towers flat peak which houses a roof garden. This tower will house luxury hotel which will no doubt have the usual suspect of frivolity included such as spa, gym possibly a pool and the many other things that make hotels more fun than most peoples homes.

The second, taller tower sports the same rectangular shape as the smaller tower but about a third of the way up begins to slant inwards which is intended by the architects to give its profile the look of a ships sail.

The tower has fully glazed facades which are slightly beveled in places giving the tower a faceted look. These rise up to a tapered peak which does feature an obligatory spire to boost its height on the skyline to around the thousand foot mark giving the project possible supertall status - a rarity for California.

This tower will house condominiums and probably the odd spa, gym and green space for use by its residents. The project will also include a 1,672 square metre public park for people to go relax in and admire the latest addition to their skyline in.

It comes from a joint venture by the developers Thomas Properties and Korean Air and is designed by architectural firm AC Martin Partners. All going well and the necessary permissions being gained construction on the tower is hoped to begin in 2011.
