Tower Plans Swan Into Swedish City

Proposals have been put forward for a new skyscraper to grace the Swedish city of Gavle.

Located in the city's technology park, the tower if built would stand at 150 metres, making it the second tallest in Sweden after Malmo's Turning Torso with 55,000 square metres of usable space on offer.

Named the Swan, it is the idea of Swedish banking and insurance company Länsförsäkringar. They are at present the sole financiers of the project, and only prepared to foot ten percent of the construction bill and still need to get leases signed before construction can go ahead, something that rules out a speculative build.

Unusual in form the tower almost resembles a rather uncomfortable looking bicycle seat, just as well they saw fit not to add wings to it. Set on a raised, wide rounded podium base the tower then slopes upwards to a slim rounded peak, creating an atrium in the centre of the tower.

When viewed from behind the tower could almost be mistaken for part of a rollercoaster. The tower is constructed from steel glazing and at the front its shape is accentuated by white concrete whilst its back is a wall of sheer glazing offering occupants unobstructed views.

If built the tower will house offices on the lower floors whilst at the top a restaurant will feature, the middle floors will be taken up by housing and a hotel, although occupants can expect to pay some of the highest rents in the city for the privilege and prestige of living in the eye catching tower.
