Dubai Pencils In Two More Supertalls

Dubai's seemingly endless skyline is set to grow further as work gets underway on two new supertall skyscrapers for a 2010 completion.

Named Lam Tara Towers, the scheme is the work of Dubai based architects Dimensions Engineering Consultants in conjunction with Bin Manana Investment Group.

They are are not only responsible in seeing everything goes smoothly and on time but also will be doing the interior design of the towers through Dubai Interiors, which is part of their group.

When complete the towers will stand at heights of 360 metres and 320 metres and will be located on the Sheikh Zayad Road. With the road already heavily populated this project will be sited on one of the last remaining land parcels in the densely populated area and will stand directly opposite what will be the world's tallest skyscraper, the Burj Dubai.

The towers will have quite a modern look to them and will use the now common steel and glazed construction combo. The shorter of the towers will stand on a somewhat boxy podium from which it rises in a hexagonal shape.

As it rises it tapers inwards and about 3 quarters of the way up the hexagonal shape ends and the tower continues in a rounded manner tapering into a long spire which almost makes the tower seem reminiscent of a funky looking mechanical pencil. The taller tower sports the same look minus the podium base.

The towers will be clad in turquoise colour glazing and features lattice work patterning worked from thin strands of steel. This patterning only extends up over the hexagonal part of the towers and finishes by flaring out slightly from the towers in a pointy manner where the cylindrical parts of the towers begin.

The towers will house grade A office space as well as 405 luxury apartments which will have 1-3 bedrooms, there will also be 10 storeys of parking space providing space for 1,600 cars.

Lam Tara will more than likely have the usual amenities which include a pool to be located on the roof of the podium giving swimmers and bathers alike a sense of the magnitude of the towers as they loom above them.
