KPF Plan Wall Street Of Chongqing

Preparations are underway so construction can begin on a massive project to be located in Chongqing, the Chicago of China.

The project designed by renowned architectural firm Kohn Pederson Fox Associates is named Financial Street, a title that is exceedingly apt as the project will occupy an entire street at JieFangBei 51 Road.

This is part of the Jiefangbei District, which is constructing 10 supertalls in the relatively small area of 800m x 500m. To put this in perspective, this will be the densest urban area with the demand for land so high many streets will not even have car access.

Considered the most important development to surface in five years, the scheme consists of seven skyscrapers are laid along a central boulevard and separated by green spaces.

The buildings slice through the existing cluster and range in heights from 180 metres to 350 metres, 400 metres if you include the spire of the tallest. Once complete it will provide 900,000 square metres of usable space.

All of the skyscrapers have a classic look of Americana about them. The architects using the tried and tested squared looked thus tying all of the towers together visually rather than having seven uniquely looking towers that may give the impression of seven stand alone projects.

All are fully glazed with glass curtain walls and stand on podiums and could be at home on any skyline around the world. The towers are placed in such a way as the eye is drawn upwards to the tallest tower then it arcs down through the smaller towers and back up again in a semi circular pattern.

A mixed use project the total space is allocated so as to have 130,000 square metres of hotel space, this will include boutique hotels as well luxury hotel serviced apartments. 170,000 square metres of commercial space along with 600,000 square metres of office space.

Already located at the financial heart of the city it is the developers hope for the project to become the 'Wall Street' of Chinas western region in a city that is has in the works 109 towers of 200m+, 18 of them supertalls.

This however is not the only aim, by building shopping spaces, apartments, offices all with fantastic amenities that are usually seen in builds these days it is hoped it can also become a social hotspot in the district. To aid this green spaces and graveled walkways at street level will feature giving oasis's of tranquility throughout the street also transport links will be improved to minimize congestion in the area.
