Called the Pixel Tower, the design comes from architectural firm James Law Cybertecture International Ltd, and is inspired by the movement of champagne bubbles. Who says drinking is a bad thing? Situated on the Dubai Waterfront it will stand at 18 storeys which by Dubai's standard is something of a baby tower but what it lacks in height it makes up for in style. The tower is aimed at the young and the trendy of Dubai and sports an unusual shape along with unusual, attention grabbing white facades which feature wave like cut-outs up to the last few upper floors where they turn into circular bubble cut outs, the façade extends up over the top of the tower. Behind the white blue glazing features matching the nearby sea and giving the tower possibly two interpretations. The geometry of the openings in the façade serves to minimize the southern direction of the sun in order to reduce heat gain whilst at the same time maximize sea views in the northern direction. Being aimed at the young this residential tower will feature cutting edge technology enabling residents to customise the controls for all the gadgets and gizmos that will be packed into the apartments. Thanks to its sophisticated wireless internet communication system they can even be in control and monitor apartments from outside the building via remote cameras that can be read through mobile phones and PDA's. With all this technology inbuilt its likely the tower will set a standard for future buildings that wish to embody style and efficiency along with up the minute technology. Completion of the project is expected to be in 2010. |
