Incorparating a range of designs from architects such as Massimiliano Fuksas and Cees Dam and Partners, the project is the work of developers Heijmans Real Estate Development and NIB Capital Bank. Made up of nine component buildings the development is a mixture of living, working, shopping and leisure facilities, covering an area of 33,000 square metres. The most notable part of the development will probably be the Fuksas penned Blob; surprisingly enough this isn't a reference to the fantastically cheesy B-movie horror flick but an acronym for the less exciting Binary Linear OBject. Virtually made entirely of glass, this organic looking... blob for lack of a better word will house 1,500 square metres of retail space and 1,000 square metres of office space. This will be illuminated at night giving it an ethereal look to the many visitors it is hoped the building will attract. Towering at 104 metres the Admirant Toren is the tallest building in Eindhoven. It can easily been seen dominating the skyline from beyond the city limits and is owned by MN Services and Amvest. It consists of catering facilities, shopping spaces, office spaces and 94 luxury apartments. The Witte Dame, formerly the Phillips light bulb factory has been converted into a centre for art, design and culture while the Admirant formerly headquarters for Phillips has been fully renovated and made into office spaces. A new corridor will link to the Vrijstraat, one of Eindhoven's historic shopping streets, and this will mainly feature fashion based retail spaces in keeping with the area. The Large Central Block (cant help wonder if all imagination for naming was exhausted at this point) will offer ample spaces for various retail outlets and also feature a multiplex cinema. At the base of the Admirant spaces devoted to interior decorations and lifestyle accessories will grace the split level design. Underneath 360 parking spaces will be available for patrons and workers. Realisation for the project was split into 2 phases; Phase 1 included the Witte Dame, the Admirant, the Admirant Toren and the garage and was completed in 2006. Phase 2 comprising of the other substructures will hopefully be finished by mid 2008. |
