The Shanghai Oil Painting and Sculpture Institute or SPSI will be holding an exhibition entitled ‘Foster + Partners: the Art of Architecture’.
Timed nicely to celebrate the opening of the firm's new Shanghai office, the exhibition takes a thorough look at the practice's illustrious 40 year history as well as giving visitors a peek at some of the new projects currently going on in the region such as the headquarters for Citic Bank in Hangzhou, a new tower in Nanjing and the Vantone development in Shanghai.
The exhibition is the first major look at the practices work to be held in china and is arranged around the themes of infrastructure, sustainability, high-rise, urban planning, history and culture, with the works on display highlighting the diversity of the practice’s work as well as serving as a showcase of its growing portfolio of projects in China.
It will also illustrate how architectural practice has changed over the past 40 years with a time-line showing the 227 projects completed by the practice in 20 countries since its birth in 1967 when it was known as Foster Associates.
As with any pop star there's the greatest hits. Visitors will also get a chance to see the original models and sketches for completed buildings such as Beijing International Airport, the Millau Viaduct in France, Hearst Tower in New York as well as what is probably the practices best known bit of work the Swiss RE Headquarters, London, affectionately known as The Gherkin.
The exhibition will run from 25th July - 25th august 2012 and will be held at the SPSI Art Museum, No. 111, Jinzhu Rd, Shanghai 201103, P.R. China further details can be found at www.youdiao.com.cn.
