The Millbank Tower is formerly London's tallest building constructed for Vickers Ltd, which at the time was one of the pre-eminent manufacturing conglomerates in the United Kingdom, the aerospace interests of which now form a large part of BAE Systems. As such, like Telecom Tower, it epitomises the attempted technological revolution of Harold Wilson's government, although like Telecom Tower it pre-dates it.
Millbank Tower was the site of the famous New Labour headquarters in 1997 picked in part because it was a modern looking tall building rather than a staid political headquarters.
