Plans were floated by Ian Springford Architects for converting Westgate House into a 140 bedroom hotel complete with full recladding but these were dropped thanks to the lack of a backer.
The building was unusual in that it stood on concrete stilts over Westgate Road, one of the main roads through the very centre of Newcastle.
