Vincent Harris designed this proposal for a new town hall for Kensington during the 1950s to compliment his library shown in the foreground. The project failed to progress although the library was built between 1957 and 1960.
Eventually the council plumped for a more modern design, perhaps also stung by the criticism that the height of the project elicited. Today the present town hall with its Brutalist exterior, designed by Basil Spence, sits on the site.
