St Vincents Church

Other Information

  • St Vincent's Church is only one of four churches in England named after the saint.
  • The church is particularly notable due to the squat appearance of the tower, and the relatively extreme height of the spire. Indeed, the spire makes up well over half of the total height of the church.
  • The church spire was struck by lightening in 1859 damaging its upper regions. George Gilbert Scott was commissioned to repair it and decided to reduce the height of the spire by 12 feet to improve its future stability. This still stands today.
