Other Information

  • Following from completion of the first phase of the Downing Central Village project for Leeds University in September 2012, the second phase commenced on site early in 2013.
  • The building houses 404 student rooms over 22 floors, with a ground and mezzanine floor making up the lower levels.
  • The cladding consists of a dark and light grey terracotta rainscreen to the outer 'wings' and an aluminium louvre system at the top of the central core. The windows are a proprietary aluminium and glazing system.
  • The client is Downing Property Services, the main contractor was George Downing Construction, the architect was John McAslan & Partners, the structural engineer was Alan Johnston Partnership, service engineering was by DESCO, with other consultants involved being OMEGA Fire, White Young Green and Buro Happold.
