  • The foundation stone was laid by Bishop Sharples in May 1844. It opened on August 9th 1848.
  • Construction took 4 years and cost 18,000. It took the church 40 years to pay off the defecit.
  • In 1935 18 metres had to be removed from the top of the spire for safety reasons. It was restored in 1938.
  • It is less than 900 metres away from Manchester Cathedral.
