St Cuthberts Parish Church

Images

  • St Cuthbert's Parish Church, Edinburgh

Other Information

  • The current Kirk was begun in 1772 after the previous church on the site was pronounced unsafe by local engineers.
  • The galleries and western projection of the church were built first, followed by a spire and then an extension to the north after the graveyard was drained.
  • Unfortunately for the church by the late 19th century it had once again become unsafe for use and so it was dismantled and then completely rebuilt by Hippolyte Blanc starting in 1888. This rebuild also saw the two western baroque towers erected transforming the previous structure into a much larger building.
