  • Hutcheson's Hospital was originally planned to encircle a central courtyard but lack of funds saw it only built on two sides of the square.
  • It was topped with a steeple and clocktower to make it a local landmark but despite this, there was a lack of funds to run it almost from when it opened and bit by bit it was bought up by local businessmen before being demolished and redeveloped into the Hutcheson's Hospital that stands on the site today.
