Nelsons Monument

Images

  • Nelson's Monument, Glasgow

Other Information

  • Nelson's Monument was the first public monument erected after the Admiral's death in his honour coming barely a year after he died paid for by public subscription.
  • It stood for only four years before it was struck by lightning which destroyed the top six metres and meant it had to be rebuilt. This explains the differences in stone near the top of the structure and a crack running down it can still be seen.
