The earliest part of the church dates from the beginning of the 12th century with the final part of the church rebuilt in 1592, and helpfully dated by a stone engraving left by the builders of the day.
Wadhurst as an early centre of Britain's iron industry has an almost unique graveyard with a large selection of iron grave stones. These 31 cast-iron grave stones range from 1617 to 1799.
