The pinnacle of the church is the tallest oldest lead-lined wooden spire in Europe making it one of the first examples in action of what would later be a common building technology.
The lead spire in the steeple was previously replaced in the 1860s although graffiti by an enterprising soul not afraid of height remains there from 1841.
