  • In terms of floorspace, Exchange Flags is the largest commercial building in Liverpool.
  • In 1941 Exchange Flags was the headquarters of Central Operations for the British Government with a bomb proof shelter, an ENIGMA machine for decoding, and 100 gas proof rooms.
  • It was from here that the Battle of the Atlantic and the supporting Royal Navy operations were largely coordinated.
  • The ground floor contains the Western Approaches War Museum dedicated to events like the Battle of the Atlantic in World War 2.
