Other Information

  • Bramahs frontage is largely clad with aluminium patterning on an abstract collection of right angles with the apartments recessed behind them allowing it to seamlessly integrate the flats balconies.
  • As well as this, the frontage has been turned into a massive piece of public art. It serves as an example of what's known as "embedded art" thanks to the etched patterning by Clare Woods designed to resembling the sunlight that would filter through the trees on the site before it was redeveloped.
  • The name Bramah is taken from the inventor Joseph Bramah. Bramah's factory opened in the mid 18th century on what is now the Grosvenor Waterside site and ran for two centuries churning out such inventions as flushing toilets and the hyrdraulic press.
  • Despite these, Bramah's most notorious invention was the Bramah Lock, a lock considered impossible to bypass in its day. It was eventually cracked 67 years after it was invented during the Great Exhibition of London taking 51 hours over 16 days.
  • In an attempt to try and animate the water side, on the ground level of Bramah there is a double-height colonnade connected to a bar and restaurant that has views over the west side of the adjacent dock.
