Other Information

  • The Broadcasting House Extension is constructed on the site of Egton House, and like Broadcasting House itself, it features a curving frontage that helps visually brand the building in the eyes of the public as part of the headquarters of the BBC.
  • Contained within is what at opening is the largest news studio in the world. Running past it is a public walkway that allows anyone to see the news actually being broadcast.
  • Topping the building is a 10 metre tall sculpture called Breathing. Designed by Jaume Plensa, this is intended to serve as a memorial to all BBC journalists who have been killed. At night during the broadcast of the 10 O'Clock News, the structure is illuminated with a concentrated blade of light that reaches up to 900 metres in the sky.
