  • The building currently occupying the site was built circa 1928. It has a sandstone frontage to Oxford Road with offices on upper floors, retail on ground floor
  • In 2001 a different application was approved of the addition of 6 storeys and conversion of the property from offices into 35 apartments. This permission has now lapsed.
  • In February 2007 a previous design was submitted by Hot Architecture on behalf of Sanguin Hospitality Ltd. Now a new design has been submitted before/ without the previous design being rejected. The new architect is Stephenson Bell Architects and the developer is Property Solutions Oxford Road. The plan includes that it will be used as an 'Express Holiday Inn' by the Intercontinental Hotel Group leased from Sanguin Hospitality Ltd
  • The Intercontinental Hotel Group has more hotel rooms than any other hotel group worldwide
  • The old proposal was for a 13 storey hotel with coloured concrete cladding, the new proposal is for 11 storeys consisting mainly of black or dark grey bricks facade, with some cream coloured glazed bricks
  • The Architects are proposing: "a weighty building which echoes many of Manchester's most visually satisfying buildings"
