  • Construction began with the crypt which the existing cathedral also stands on after the foundations were completed in 1929. The main dimensions of the crypt measure approximately 82 metres by 147 metres.
  • The project was put on hold because of World War 2 and then dumped because of post war shortages and project costs had risen to 27 million, or 754.68 million in 2004 money.
