  • Although largely built in the period from about 1130 to 1140, it's believed that the top floor of the keep was added much later in perhaps the 14th century replacing a pyramidal roof.
  • The building is clad in ashlar stone that was transported all the way from Northamptonshire, a mark of the wealth of the de Vere family that built it.
