Royal Garden Hotel was a hugely controversial design that was built adjacent to Kensington Gardens and clearly appeared behind the tree-line from the park. The commercial success of it lead to the architect, Seifert, getting the commission for the Penta Hotel on Gloucester Road in 1967.
Originally designed as a modernist block, by the mid 90s the design was considered dated and given a full make over that included recladding.
