Other Information

  • During the industrial revolution Dundee was becoming by far the largest city in the Diocese of Brechin and thus it was decided by Alexander Penrose Forbes who had been elected Bishop in 1847 that it would make the most sense to relocate the seat of the bishopric to Dundee.
  • The result of this was the hiring of George Gilbert Scott by the the diocese and the commissioning of a new church to be the cathedral at the cost of 14,000. This sum was paid off over a period of ten years by the congregation.
