Windsor House

Other Information

  • Designing the building Seifert reportedly drew his inspiration for Windsor House from Eero Saarinen's CBS Building in New York that features thrusting triangular columns.
  • Windsor House is a pioneering building in a number of ways with it being an early example of column free floors and a facade that's a mixture of purple granite and glazing and yet completely flush, something that the CBS Building does not feature.
  • In constructing the building Waterman reduced the cost by managing to dream up a technique that would allow them to cast the floor and core at the same time rather than the traditional method of the core first and then floor after.
