- The original church on site dates back to 681 although the current building is Norman in construction.
- Ripon spent fifty as a half built cathedral thanks to the dissolution of the monasteries which happened during its construction.
- Much of the lead and glass used in the cathedral was stripped off the nearby Fountains Abbey which is only 2 miles down the road.
- Ripon Cathedral used to have three spires which sadly no longer exist.
