  • St Elphin's is the fifth tallest parish church in England.
  • Although it has been a place of worship since 600 A.D the current building was largely constructed under the direction of Sir William Boteler from around 1354 although only the chancel and crypt remain thanks to the ravages of the English Civil War.
  • Left in a ruinous condition construction started on the tower in 1696 with a new spire raised and the nave was reconstructed in 1770 with the southern part of the aisle built at the start of the 19th century.
