This tower, by Crosby Homes, is one of many towers either under construction or proposed in this area of the city.
This tower was originally granted planning permission in 2001 but has encountered a number of obstacles and changes.
The original contractor Carillion fell out with developers Crosby and ceased work on the site in 2002. However, work late started under new contractors Taylor Woodrow.
Also, since start of construction, the tower has re-applied for planning permission on a number of occasions and has increased its height from 22 floors to 26 floors due to popular demand adding another 29 apartments to this element of the building.
The building was engineered by BWB Consulting who had a number of challenges to overcome, not least fitting anti vibration mountings to the substructure to absorb disturbance from the nearby New Street Station, and vertical movement joints to help transfer loads between different sections of the building.
