Other Information

  • Alpha Tower was constructed as part of the ATV Studios being constructed in Birmingham City Centre in 1965.
  • The tower is topped by a parabolic roof inspired by Felix Candela that originally stood over a rooftop restaurant, now closed.
  • After the closure of the TV Studios in the 1990s, Birmingham City Council bought the tower and is now the main offices for the City Council.
  • It was completed in 1970 and was the city's tallest tower block for the last 35 years. Alpha Tower lost its title of the tallest tower block in Birmingham when the Holloway Circus Tower was completed in mid-2005.
  • The building was finally given a makeover in 2015 internally that saw the office space upgraded to grade A status in a phased programme that refurbished several floors at a time.
